The End of an Era…well at least for us
Hi everyone, Justin CEO of Autriv Software Development here.
When I started Autriv in 2010, I never knew what would come of it. Apps were a new thing, the iPad had been out only a few months, and here I was attempting to do something no one had done before.
I’ve told the idea of how SignMyPad was created before, so no need to bore you here, but I will still remember getting a phone call the night it went live from a large cable company asking how to use it. I was amazed at the reach it had in such a sort time.
SignMyPad and SignMyPad Pro even took on Apple with our iCloud controversy in 2011. We were changing the rules as we saw it, and kept going. We went deeper with apps like BlackBook, HomeBase, NYCTruckFood and Goodnight. Each reaching their potential markets, make people change how they work, and changing the world (as cliche as that sounds).
So it’s with a heavy heart that as of Dec 31st, 2015 – Autriv is now closed. The market has saturated, and there is just too much competition. The cost of up keeping apps when we don’t make any additional funds for each upgraded release (that Apple forces to do to keep it live) just hasn’t panned out.
If Apple and Google changed their “buy it once keep it forever” rule, it would make more sense for us to stay creating apps. Trust me I love that feature also. I’m a huge fan of Apple and their iDevices, and love that I don’t have to pay extra – but for a company such as ours, where I’m not doing the coding myself there is an intrinsic cost of doing business. One that we can not sustain anymore.
Support for SignMyPad and Goodnight will end. Updates will not be coming. The apps will still be available on the app store however.
I want to thank everyone over the years who helped make SignMyPad, Goodnight, HomeBase, and BlackBook and I wish everyone a happy new year and good luck in all endeavors they take on.
Thanks to all.
Justin
